Why do some sheds rot so quickly?
Sheds rot fast for three predictable reasons: thin plywood siding (like T1-11) that swells and delaminates in the Texas heat-rain cycle, untreated framing and floors sitting close to ground moisture, and water intrusion from un-caulked seams, missing drip edge, or the building resting directly on wet dirt.
Quality buildings avoid all three with engineered siding, pressure-treated skids and floor joists, and proper moisture detailing — plus getting the shed up off the ground on blocks or a gravel pad. Rot isn't bad luck; it's usually a build decision you can see coming.
Why it matters
Rot is the number-one way sheds die in Texas, and it's almost entirely preventable. Understanding the three causes lets you spot a shed that will rot before you buy it — and keep the one you own dry.

Ground contact
A shed set on bare clay rotted at the base within a few years. The same building on a gravel pad would have stayed dry.
Cheap siding swells
T1-11 panels that swelled and delaminated after a few wet seasons were the visible start of a rot problem better siding would have avoided.
